Here's something you may or may not know: Keep poking the NPCs long enough, and their voice emotes start getting rude.

I used to do these things in WoW when I was bored.

You seem to be improving with this one a bit. Where did you get the background though? Even if it's a screenshot, if you haven't made it yourself, you shouldn't post it here.

Now, for the shading and highlights, remember that they need to be consistent. Think about where the light source is, both spot and ambient light. In this picture, your shades and highlights are all over the place, with no real source of light in mind.

The girl's face could use some work, try looking at some photographs for reference and study the shape of the head and face. Remember that eyes need sockets to fit in, and that the mouth and chin look the way they do because of jaw structure. The features aren't just tacked onto the face like on a Mr. Potatohead.

Also, the strokes for colouring and shading need work. Some of them are rather messy and the pre-made textures are really not necessary. They do look pretty, but you need to be able to draw your own textures; using some texture made by someone else is often seen as lazy(not saying you are lazy, mind you) Some of them look too blurry, others too shiny and sharp to be consistent.

Finally, the hands... the man's right hand looks bent kinda awkward, though hands are very hard to draw. The fingers on his right hand look too small, while the girl's left hand looks like the thumb is growing from the back side of her hand and wrapping around it like a gumby arm, and half her fingers are kinda blended in to the palm of her hand. Try doing some studies on hands and fingers because those are particularly hard to draw.
